GOP Using Scare Tactics to Raise Money, Revealed in Leaked Documents

Questionable Political Tactics Seem to Be the Way of Washington These Days

Well the Republicans are getting pretty desperate using scare tactics to raise money. GOP leaders are running around trying to do damage control on some information revealed in some recently leaked documents. The leak apparently started at a $2,500-a-head RNC meeting/retreat in Boca Grande, Florida when an attendee mistakenly left a 72-page document outlining a 2010 strategy in a hotel room.

Apparently, the information in this document outlines the fund raising presentation made by Rob Bickhart, the RNC Finance Director. The presentation advises Republican candidates to depict themselves as the best hope for heading off the trend toward socialism currently being perpetuated by the Democratic Party in Washington.

The presentation paints President Barack Obama's current administration as being the "Evil Empire." Obama's image appears made over in makeup similar to Heath Ledger's Joker from the most recent Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Harry Reid is made out to look like the hapless cartoon canine, Scooby-Doo and House Speaker Pelosi is depicted as 101 Dalmations character, Cruella DeVille. The amazing thing about this is the documents caricatures of Democrats are apparently inteneded to foment "fear" in the conservative base of the GOP. RNC donors are also referred to as "ego-driven" pawns who are easily appeased by toys. MSNBC aired the images from the leaked RNC documents Thursday.

So what does it all mean? Is this the Republican National Party trying to create an alliance with the activist Tea Party? Apparently they're not too hesitant to use the same tactics used by the Tea Party while also courting their members for campaign contributions and cash. Both parties have tried to gain power through questionable tactics over the years. George Bush and Dick Cheney were depicted as James Bond-like bad guys by the Democarts when the GOP allegedly tried to kill Social Security entitlement programs. While it's not unusual for either the Democratic or Republican political parties to try just about anything to get back on top, it does seem to be reaching exceptionally high levels of criticism.

Whatever the stakes, it seems that politicians in general are willing to do whatever it takes to demean and distort the positions and platforms of anyone attempting to stand in their way. Either party embracing harsh rhetoric, outright dishonesty, or dubious tactics in order to regain a position of power is not what this country is all about.
