GOP Wins in Obama's Home District

Democrats' Big Mistake!

SB
Honolulu, Hawaii - A Republican city councilman has defeated two Democrats candidates in a midterm election at the congressional district where President Barack Obama was born and raised, according to the Associated Press.

Representative-elect Charles Djou's victory last Saturday is the latest winning strand for the GOP to take back control of the Congress.

What I don't understand is that why the Democrats allowed such move because no matter which political angle one would look at, it doesn't make sense for the democrats to allow two candidates run over one Republican. Defeated Dems' bets Ed Chase and Colleen Hanabusa, split on the votes for their party, while Djou got the solid votes for the GOP.

A total of 67,610 (39.4%) votes went to Djou, followed by state Senate President Colleen Hanabusa, who got 52,802 (30.8%) and former U.S. Rep. Ed Case, received 47,391 votes (27.6%).

This turn of events is such one big blow for the Democrats because they prevailed for so many decades on Hawaii's 1st Congressional District, where Pres. Obama was born and grew up.

"This is a momentous day. We have sent a message to the United States Congress. We have sent a message to the national Democrats. We have sent a message to the machine," Djou told AP. "The congressional seat is not owned by one political party. This congressional seat is owned by the people."

Fellow Republican Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle said "Djou must continue to put his state above his party if he wants to be re-elected in November."

The special election was set to fill the vacated seat of Democratic Rep. Neil Abercrombie, who resigned early this year to run for governor.

The seat was supposed to be safe for the Dems, but several sources were saying the internal feud have caused the party to lose control and that gave GOP a better edge.

Although DCCC Chairman Rep. Chris Van Hollen showed no regrets on the result of the special election and said "we're looking at November," since the position will only be good for four months. But the Saturday win for Djou was seen critical and symbolic by the GOP since the district involved used to be a Democrats district since 1959.
