This year Gordon and the Whale held their third annual Oscar-watching party at the legendary Texas Theater on Feb 27, 2011. This party was my first event of this sort and it was a blast.

The party was known as the "best way to see the Oscars" by several locals that I chatted with. Texas is one of my favorite states and it was nice to chat again with some old friends who clued me in to the event. The idea is to get dressed up and experience the Oscars as if you were there. Set up as one of he oldest theaters in Dallas, the Texas Theater did not disappoint.

The show was a wonderful way to honor the night in Hollywood on a local level. The theater has such a famous history that I had to check it out. I had seen this place before when passing by the area, but I had never actually been inside. The event offered me the perfect chance to do both.

Inside the design is like an old time movie palace. Complete with all of the historic decor, the Texas Theater was the perfect place for the Gordon and the Whale Oscar Party. Everyone was thrilled to be there and old friends all welcomed me back to town. It was one of the best ways to see the Oscars and commemorate some local history at the same time.

Many dressed up in full Formal "Oscar" attire, complete with the fancy accessories. There was a "paparazzi" set up to greet each of as we arrived. Pictures were the least of the event though, with the full-on awards ceremony during the "pre-show". Some of the awards given were:

- 5 annual subscriptions to Blockbuster "On-Demand"

- 1 tickets to the Lone Star International Film Festival

- 2 star memberships to the Lone Star Festival

- 2 passes to the 2011 Texas Frightmare Weekend

- 2 passes to the Dallas Video Fest

- 2 awards were given to the Dallas International Guitar Festival

- Several gift packages

- 1 big package of everything

Everyone received something for the trip. It was really a fun "pre-show" party. The rest of the night was about watching the awards on the a screen. I definitely decided that this will be an annual event for me from now on. That is unless I can get to the real event in Hollywood some day.
