4 different types of cheese of your preference (I normally buy a regular cheddar, a smoked gouda, a white -- such as swiss or mozzarella, and boursin)

Small bag of walnuts

1/2 cup olive oil

1/2 cup balsamic vinegar

Fresh sprigs of rosemary

Small loaf of crusty french or italian bread

1 bunch of grapes, green or red

I visited my local stone quarry and bought a large, rectangular piece of slate for $10. It is very heavy, but it makes a beautiful, large base for a cheese platter, and it cleans up nicely.

Slice a few chunks of bread and cheese off of each block, but leave most of it intact. Mix oil and vinegar in attractive bowl. You will be displaying all of this haphazardly on your tray. All you need is a few cheese knives and toothpicks or tongs for the cheese.
