Gossip Girl Episode 2.1 Spoiler

Season Two of Gossip Girl premiered September 1, 2008. Episode 2.1 is titled Summer Kind of Wonderful. Warning: the following summary is an episode spoiler and reveals major plot details. Plus my summary might be slightly out of order with more of a focus on the characters and not the order of the episode.

Most of the cast is spending the summer in the Hampton's. The episode opens with Nate Archibald making out with an older woman in a car. Madchen Amick guest stars as Kathryn, an older married woman who is having an affair with Nate. Nate and Kathryn hook up several times throughout the episode until Kathryn breaks off the relationship when her husband arrives to the Hampton's ahead of schedule.

Chuck Bass has also spent the summer in the Hampton's after standing Blair up in the beginning of the summer. He was supposed to meet up with her in the beginning of the summer but instead he chose the Hampton's. He is obviously regrets his decision and anxiously waits for Blair to arrive for the end of summer party.

Serena Van Der Woodsen is shown in the beginning of the episode walking sadly along the beach. She has spent the entire summer pining away for Dan Humphrey. The rumor around the Hampton's is that Serena and Nate is an item but that is only a cover story to cover Nate's affair. Serena knows that Nate is seeing someone but she has no idea it is an older married woman.

Jenny and Dan spent the summer back in New York. Jenny is an intern with a snobby fashion designer. Jenny does her best to impress her boss and even makes her a dress for the much anticipated "White Party" but the designer knocks the dress and just gives Jenny more work to do.

Dan is an intern with his favorite author Jeremiah Harris. Dan runs errands for the author but is also suppose to be writing an article. Instead of spending the summer working on the article, he has been going on a dating spree, dating numerous women at once. He regrets breaking up with Serena and is experiencing major writers block. The author is tired of Dan's lack of progress on the article so he fires him. After a heart to heart with his dad Rufus, Dan hops on a bus to the Hampton's.

Meanwhile, Blair Waldorf has arrived in the Hampton's with a cute new boyfriend names James. In all outward appearances, Blair really likes James but it turns out she is just using him to make Chuck jealous and to get back at him for ruining her summer. Apparently she was quite crushed when he ditched her. Chuck spends most of the episode trying to dig up dirt on James and to get Blair to admit she still likes him.

Jenny is desperate to go the White Party, which is invitation only. She calls up Eric an Der Woodsen. He forgives her for her harsh words at the end of the school year and escorts her to the party. He even introduces her to a popular designer named Tinsley who snubs the snobby designer. Tinsley is impressed with Jenny and even offers her a job as an intern but Jenny decides to stick with the snobby designer who seems very happy with Jenny's choice and finally remembers her name.

Everyone converges on the White Party. James finally realizes that Blair is just using him and calls her out on her behavior. He even says she is a perfect match for Chuck which upsets her. Chuck tries to win Blair back with more talk. Blair says that she will stay with him if he can say three words to her. He is unable to say "I Love You" so she returns to James, who turns out to be a British Lord who was just pretending to be a normal guy.

Dan arrives at the party to see Serena making out with Nate. It was all a show to make Kathryn jealous. At first Dan is mad but when Serena explains everything and he is outed for being a summer playboy, they make up and get back together.

Everyone has a happy ending except for Chuck. Kathryn decides to not break off her relationship with Nate and he seems happy when she slips him a note as she is leaving the party with her husband. Serena and Dan are shown happy on the beach and the Gossip Girl makes her normal witty comments. The End.
