The Broom
This is the wizards and witches primary means of transportation, much like the muggles cars and trucks. They too, come in different makes and models, such as the Cleansweep Eleven, the Firebolt and the Nimbus 2000, to name a few.
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the Bluebottle Broom is advertised as "A Broom for All the Family - safe, reliable and with In-built Anti-Burglar Buzzer ..."
Floo powder
This is is a greyish or silvery powder that gives access to the Floo Network, which is a rapid means for transporting witches and wizards from one place to another.
The Howler
This is an urgent, angry voice message that is delivered by Owl Post, much like letters are. It is comes in a distinctively red envelope, which explodes if not opened promptly. As the name suggests, the howler is a extremely loud, screaming message.
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Ron receives a howler from his mother.
The Invisibility Cloak
It is a magical device that renders one invisible, and able to move around unobserved. When nobody is wearing it, it resembles a silvery, almost transparent cloak.
In Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Professor Dumbledore gives Harry an invisibility cloak that used to be belong to Harry's father. Harry uses it to enter the Restricted Section of the library at night, and almost gets caught by Professor Snape and Filch.
The Pensieve
Sometimes a wizard/witch wants to extract a thought from his/her head and set it aside. The Penseive is where this thought is stored.
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, when Severus Snape gives Harry a lesson in Occlumency (the art of entering a fellow wizards mind), there are some memories that he does not want Harry to access, and he stores these in a Penseive.
The Portkey
The portkey is ued to magically transport a person from one place to another. It is usually an everyday object upon which a spell has been cast
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Professor Dumbledore creates a Portkey, with which to transport Harry and the Weasleys from his office to 12 Grimmauld Place, the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix.
The Put-Outer
The Put-Outer is a small gadget that looks much like a cigarette lighter. The wizard/witch uses it to capture a light source, putting it out, and then releasing it later on, restoring it to its place.
In Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Professor Dumbledore used a Put-Outer to"put out" the streetlights to hide the fact that Harry Potter was being delivered to the Dursleys. Once they left, he released the light from the put outer, restoring the streetlights to normal.
The Sneakoscope
This is a glass, spinning top, which will usually stand upright on a surface, but light up, spin and whistle when it detects that there is someone untrustworthy in the vicinity.
The Sneakoscope is a gadget that lets the wizard/witch know that someone close by is not trust worthy. It is of great practical use for any wizard/witch who is involved in battling Dark Magic.
In in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the sneakoscope is triggered in the train compartment of the Hogwarts Express
The Time-Turner
The Time-Turner is a little, sparkly hourglass that is usually worn as a pendant. When it is turned over once, it allows the wizard/witch to travel back in time to one hour earlier. It literally gives the power to go back in time and do over.
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione uses the time-turner to attend more classes and exams than she would otherwise have been physically able to.
The Wand
The wand is the ubiquitous gadget of the wizard and the witch. It is the main means by which he/she performs magic. The wand serves as a tool the focuses and amplifies the wizards magical abilities. There are many varieties of wands, made from different kinds of wood and having different magical cores.
