Goth Christmas Tree Decor for Your Emo, Goth, Dark Christmas Tree Needs
Don't Just Say I Hate Christmas, Prove it by Following These Goth Christmas Tree Decoration Tips
Step a little closer, my dark friend, for this year, we shall learn how all about Goth Christmas Tree Décor, for those of us who prefer something a little, how shall we say, evil for holiday season:
As I ponder, weak and weary,
This holiday season, dark and dreary,
I dream of dying Christmas trees,
Rotten presents, forgotten joys,
Terror for little girls and boys.
Dark, dark, dark, the holiday boughs,
And loud the echoes of the howls,
Of Christmas demons, angels gone wrong,
And celebrating evil with my dreadful song,
Round the gothic Christmas, spin the spider's web and weave,
A net to catch holiday wishes,
And sprinkle them with death's sweet kisses...
Okay, a poet I am not. But I can certainly offer some crafty suggestions for the evil Christmas tree inclined.
First, never use a living Christmas tree. Instead, find a dead tree. If you can't find a dead tree, slip a little bleach in the water of a perfectly healthy tree and within a few days, you will have your very own deceased holiday tree. CP Amber S. suggests that you spraypaint your dead tree black, and I think this is a wonderful suggestion. For the more merry Goths, silver spray paint would also be fabulously creepy.
Along the same lines, Amber S. offers suggestions for how to make your own Goth Christmas decorations, such as purple glitter pinecones or refashioning Halloween décor for the Christmas season, which are perfectly acceptable ideas, but just not goth enough for me. I'd rather see ornaments fashioned from the skulls of dead rodents or from locks of celebrity hair (with celebrities still attached? perhaps...), but if that's too creepy for you, why not make your own christmas ornaments?
Making your own ornaments in tribute to your favorite Goth Gods is easy and fun. Whether you worship Trent Reznor, of Nine Inch Nails fame, Robert Smith, of the cure, or Morrisey, the Smiths, or whoever, you can create your own ornaments in homage by finding a collection of images of the person of your choice. Make color photocopies the images. Create ornaments by cutting shapes out of cardstock, affixing the image using white glue, and coating the finished product with a thin layer of lacquer. Punch a hole in the top of each ornament, hang with a loop of black velvet ribbon, and you have a creepy holiday tree that will spook out your "straight" friends. Goth Christmas tree décor doesn't have to be expensive.
Don't feel like making your own decorations? Take Erin Thursby's (http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/310986/erin_thursby.html) suggestion and hit up your local Hot Topic. "Don't be afraid to have a goth Christmas," says Erin. "The juxtaposition alone is sure to put you in a holiday mood." I couldn't agree with her more. Shopping for dark Christmas tree décor will leave you more time to sit around moaning about your life, and what goth doesn't love doing that?
So before you write off Christmas, do your best to decorate your Christmas tree in a goth way, using creepy ornaments and deliciously evil decorations. Don't just say how much you hate the holidays, proof it with some dreadful Christmas tree decorating. If you have other goth Christmas ideas, feel free to leave a comment here. Have a wonderfully dreary holiday this year.

what a fun article!! I have my little tree in my bedroom that I decorate to remind me of the ocean every year... not goth but a definite theme thats fun. My son would love a creepy tree this year...
I am making you a fav!
Great article. I've been thinking about going full Emo this year.
The Holidays definitely bring out the Emo in me, but I try not to let that show -don't want to yuk anyone's yum. But great tips should I ever come out of my Goth Christmas closet. I thought the poem was good, sounded like Dr. Suess' Grinch.
