President Barack Obama, who has decided to meet with the Governor of Arizona on Thursday, has publicly voiced his opposition to the Arizona immigration reform bill even before Gov. Brewer signed it. Senate bill 1070 was signed into law by Gov. Jan Brewer in late April.
Critics of SB 1070, the AZ immigration bill Brewer signed to "protect" Arizonans, have been heavily protesting the law and its potential for being unconstitutional. President Barack Obama has himself stated he would be having the Justice Department look into the constitutionality of SB 1070 to determine if its signing was even legal on a Federal level. It is unknown if this aspect of the immigration reform battle will be discussed when President Obama meets with Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to discuss immigration and border security later this week.
Though new Arizona immigration law SB 1070 echoes, ver batam, Federal immigration law, many Americans feel that Governor Brewer was wrong in signing the state version. Critics of SB 1070 feel the new Arizona immigration policies, set to take effect later this summer, will create the feel of a "police state" in Arizona, where legal immigrants, or even any person who may "look" like an immigrant, can be asked for their papers at any time.
Though public opinion polls both before and after the new AZ immigration law was signed show a majority are in favor of the immigration reform, thousands of protesters have been taking to the streets in protest for weeks now. It is unclear what, if any, impact the meeting between the Governor of Arizona and President Obama will have on Arizona immigration law reform.

Nice... :o)
Good reporting.
Maybe she could explain it to him slowly with no big words so he can understand. Great job on this kid.
Stand tall Jan, don't let the bully push you around. Jan Brewer should run for President, Lord knows we need a leader.
Oh, and for those who snuck over and started stealing jobs (especially in our current unemployment turmoil), I think they need to take their arses home. I know the argument is that they need jobs too but we're already here and fighting for jobs as is. The competition is definitely not wanted. This is one of the very few times I lean more towards the Republican outlook than the Democratic outlook. But again, the message below brings the liberal out in me.
Great update.
This is a great entry. I'll retweet it. I'm 50/50 on this one. On one hand I think people should have to go through the legal process of being citizens. So many slid in for slaughterhouse work and cheap labor, and the government let it happen so I can understand why illegal immigrants are pissed that they have to go back now. THEY let them in and turned a blind eye. But for those who are legally here, that's racial profiling. And I know from experience that is NOT a pleasant experience.
Thanks Jennifer!
