Gov. Sarah Palin to Resign as Alaska Governor

Is Sarah Palin Considering a Presidential Run or Running from Media Negativity?

Kathryn E. Darden
In a surprising, even shocking move, it was just reported on the news that Gov. Sarah Palin has just announced she will resign as governor of Alaska before the end of July. Gov. Palin held a news conference at her home in Wasilla, Alaska, Friday morning where she revealed she was stepping down and that Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks, Alaska, on Saturday, July 25. Gov. Palin did not say why she will resign. However, people are already speculating on why Sarah Palin is stepping down now.

Early Speculation on Reasons Gov. Sarah Palin Is Resigning

Could it be that the feisty governor from Alaska, who was the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008, is getting ready for a run for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination? Or did Gov. Palin step down because she was constantly having to defend herself against ethics complaints and ongoing media negativity as her brother Chuck Heath told Fox News?

Gov. Sarah Palin Constant Media Target

Sarah Palin was a constant media target, from her former beauty pageant career, to her folksy sayings. She was ridiculed for being a hunter, and she became a focal point of Tina Fey's spots on SNL Instead of applauding the Republican's choice of a woman in the vice-presidential spot, she was blasted again and again for anything she said, anything she wore, or anything her family did. This is somewhat the norm in politics, but the media was relentless and often inaccurate in their constant attacks on Gov. Palin.

Gov. Sarah Palin - The Bridge to Nowhere & Other Controversy

Gov. Palin was blamed for the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere" although Congress passed the $442-million construction budget in 2005 -- before Palin was elected governor. Palin rightfully earned some criticism for waffling on the bridge after the fact in a John Kerry "I was for it before I was against it" moment. She also came under fire for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. Although Gov. Palin claimed Monegan was not a "team player," Monegan claimed he was fired because he would not fire Palin's ex-brother-in-law, state trooper Mike Wooten. This "he said, she said" controversy always worked in Monegan's favor in the media, although he himself admitted he could not be certain that his own firing was connected to that issue. Bristol Palin's Teen Pregnancy

Then it was revealed the Gov. Palin's teenage daughter Bristol was pregnant, and the media turned that announcement into a blood sport as proof positive Palin's traditional family values were of no worth. The media continues to pursue stories about Gov. Palin's grandchild today.

We May Not Have Seen the Last of Gov. Sarah Palin

The media certainly has been guilty of constant attacks on Sarah Palin, and if I were in her stylish pumps, I would probably have broken under the pressure a long time ago. However, I think Sarah Palin is made of sterner stuff. She has weathered everything from personal attacks to family attacks and maintained her dignity in the process. I would not be surprised if there is an announcement in a couple of years that Sarah Palin is gearing up for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. You betcha!

I like Palin. I hope she resigned because she has a master plan, not because of anything negative.

I don't know what to think about all this. I also heard she resigned b/c the gov't was forcing her to take the stimulus check for Alaska.

You can really feel the love in this.
