Government Grant Programs Revealed - Completely Free!

What the Infomercials Don't Want You to Know

John Vann
We have all seen the late night television commercials advertising hidden government grant programs. They brag about grants and opportunities to collect money that you can't find anywhere else but in their book - which they want you to buy of course. But the fact is that everybody has access to every single government grant program in their books. Most of us don't know where to look, but it could be easier to find than you might think.

A grant is money that you never have to pay back. Grants are given out for a variety of reasons, though they usually come with the agreement that you will spend the cash on specific costs. For example, many grants are received by students for exceptional grades, or to young athletes for a stellar performance. These types of grant programs are to intended to help pay for the costs of their college education, including tuition, books, housing and more.

Recently, and as a direct result of these late night infomercials, the United States government has created and now maintains their own website dedicated to listing the grant programs that are available. The website itself is well designed and features easy navigation, allowing you to search for grants that meet a certain criteria or even browse them by category. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that finding the right government grant program will be easy.

Because our government really does offer thousands of dollars in free money through their various grant programs, it can be difficult to find the right one for you. There are also eligibility requirements that must be met to qualify for a program and time sensitive deadlines, as well. By the time you find the government grant that meets your needs, it may be too late to apply.

You can take a look for yourself at www.grants.gov - as this is an official website of the United States of America, you know the programs found here will be 100 percent legal and completely valid. There are hundreds of grants listed here, whether you need money for environmental preservation or research, to community development, housing, business and commerce, and even more. And if you qualify this truly is free cash - remember, you'll never have to pay this money back, though it is of course earmarked for a specific purpose.

This is not to say that the books and programs offered on late night infomercials are completely without merit. As previously mentioned, there are a vast number of grant opportunities provided by the government, and because of this finding a specific grant or one that you may be eligible for can be a very time consuming and difficult task. These books are good for organizing and categorizing the different government grant programs available, and list all of the eligibility requirements and fine print right there for you.

In the end, it is completely up to you. If you have the free time to spend searching www.grants.gov for the specific grant you are seeking, there is really no reason to invest in a book or some other kind of media found on some of the late night television infomercials. But if it is your time you value, it may be worth the money to have all of the information more easily accessible.
