Government Spending Brings US to Brink of Foreclosure

How the Budget Crisis is Taste of Things to Come

Anastasia Zoldak

President Obama's threat to America's seniors that there may not be enough money for their social security payments is a clear foreshadowing of what will happen when our country's creditors say we cannot borrow any more money. In his politically motivate scare tactic stance, the president said, "I'm not sure we can send out those checks on August 2nd" President Obama forgot to mention that the treasury headed by his appointee will make decisions on what is paid and not congress.

In addition, can someone tell me why after two years with a Democratic congress and president where no longer have a "lock box" on social security? What happened? Where are our social security contributions going? Didn't the president promise to protect our Social Security benefits? What happened to the trust or the Democratic "Lock Box"? President Obama has two years with a Democratic run congress and they did nothing to protect social security from the crisis they had to know was coming.

The question all Americans must ask themselves today is, "What can we do about it now?" Fortunately, the answer is obvious to anyone who has a budget problem at home. The Democrats and Republicans in government are acting as if they are irresponsible teenagers shopping with their parent's credit cards. Unfortunately, they have already gone through our savings and are now working on the saving s of our great great grandchildren.

The Democrats seem more interested in scaring our seniors than being honest and presenting an alternative budget to the American public. This is especially important since we have not had a real budget in this country in more than two years. The Republicans are more interested in being liked than forcing the issue of real financial change. I guess both parties assume that the "average American" is too stupid to understand what happens when you overspend.

If anything, when it comes to this country, we are a family. We might not like everyone we are related to but we understand that if we do not stick together we will fail. Unfortunately, when countries fail people really start to suffer. It is time for the public to act as parents to their government and ask them some hard questions such as why are you focusing on entitlements when it only represents 35% of the budget.

Let us cut our globalization expenditures such as foreign aid, the money the U.S. gives to support the UN and military expenditures to police the world first! For example, the billions we are spending to fight in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan. What is the mission now that Osama bin Laden is dead? If, our job is nation building should we not focus on our needs first?

It is time to stop funding oil exploration in South American and fund it at home. Let us cut our global spending first before we screw over the people who have actually contributed to the growth of this country. Our seniors!

As a parent, I understand I have to make the hard choices to keep my child safe. It is time for the American public to provide some parental "tough love" back to those who are supposed to lead our government into prosperity. If we do not, you can tell your grandchildren how you sat by and let the world's most stable form of government collapse because you believed shortsighted power hungry opportunists in both parties over your own common sense on spending.

Call on Washington today and let them know you are watching. Let me make it easy for those of you who say, "They don't have the time"
