Rick Perry's wife, Anita, became more vocal in the last week. She paints her husband as a "victim" of GOP and media abuse. I don't remember either of these conservatives standing up for Sarah Palin when she was under siege. Sarah Palin, now there was (and still remains) a case of horrendous abuse by the GOP and media. Anita Perry hasn't seen anything yet! If the governor's wife keeps speaking out, the GOP and media will think she is fair game.
Governor Perry has been a disappointment for many who were seeking a conservative candidate. His mandatory vaccine program, illegals and college, and calling prospective voters heartless are just a few reasons why Perry finds himself on the downhill slide. His ability to debate seems to be lacking. In rides wife Anita, to shore up the battle lines.
It's hard to watch Governor Perry debate. Is it nerves or lack of confidence? Does Perry simply not have that fire in the belly that Palin and Cain possess? When he shows up to a debate on the economy and says his plan will be out in three days, it's a bad sign. When he could nip something in the bud, like the squabble over Romney's faith, he doesn't respond or gives an ineffective statement. This is not a man chomping at the bit to be our next President.
Anita Perry seems to have the opposite traits. She doesn't mind taking on the media and GOP. She has a lot to say about how her husband has been mistreated and misunderstood. When she talks about how he decided to run for president, Anita almost sounds as if it were her idea instead of Rick's. No matter who's idea it was, they had to know they weren't going to walk in and be crowned automatically.
The Perry's have hit a wall, they may or may not be able to break through it. This election is taking on a mind of its own and even the GOP cannot control voters. While voters are dumping Perry for Cain, Romney is at a standstill.
Governor Perry and his wife have a long road ahead of them on the way to the White House. She sounds whiny about them being criticized. The Perry's will have to learn to roll with the punches, defend the punches or just duck.

Post a CommentI think Mrs. Perry should understand that politics is not Bed and Breakfast and she needs to put up with the heat or they both need to get out of the kitchen.
Like you, I was excited when Rick Perry entered the race. I agree, there are several of his policies that I do not like. However, I believe his campaign has been badly handled. One thing that turned me off on Perry, Romney and Bachman is the way they attack each other. They should tell us how they will differ from Obama and how they will handle the mess this country is in. By the way, your article was very good.
Interesting perspective. Anita does seem pretty sure of herself. Rick has looked pretty shaky. Palin talks a lot, but seems very shallow.
