As the race for governor of the State of Texas heats up one would think that Bill White, the former mayor of Houston, and Democratic challenger for incumbent Republican Governor Rick Perry would take all the support he could get from "the winning members" of his party. Who could be a stronger endorser for a Democratic challenger than President Obama himself? Apparently, Bill White could see the writing on the wall even as far back as early August of this year when he declined any press opportunities during President Barack Obama's visit to Austin, Texas.

If President Obama was doing anything right one would think that Democratic nominees would break their necks for press opportunities. "Scheduling conflicts" seem to keep them away, however. At least that is what Bill White claimed.

Oddly enough incumbent Republican Governor Rick Perry was very anxious to meet President Obama in person to ask for help with Texas' problems with border safety. Unfortunately his personal attempt to ask the Commander in Chief for help was passed on to a Presidential aide. Apparently the request for help fell on deaf ears.

Texan's attention spans seem to be very short as this obvious attempt on Bill White's part to keep President Obama's bad karma from rubbing off has all but been forgotten as voters seem to become pre-occupied with the fact that Governor Rick Perry has declined to debate Bill White. Governor Perry's refusal stems from the fact that Bill White has failed to produce income tax statements from the early 1990's. Many claim that though White should have produced these documents, Perry's reason to back out of the debate is ridiculous. They say that Perry's only reason for refusing to debate White is "because he doesn't have the ability to intelligently defend his office". Many then go on to call Perry "Slick Ricky". According to several sources despite the fact that the United States has suffered one of the worst economic down-turns in recent history, Texas' economy has remained strong. So these opinions are mystifying to me.

I wonder if these Texans would have the same opinion if they did a little research and found that Bill White served as the US Department Secretary of Energy under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1995. Coincidentally the same years that Bill White is staunchly refusing for which to provide his income tax returns.

Another fact that may be of interest to Texan voters is that it is Bill Clinton that has historically been referred to as "Slick Willy".

When it comes to the Democratic party as of late, actions speak so much louder than words.
