If you're in the mood for a game of poker, there's no need to leave the house and hit the local casino, or take a risk at any sketchy web site. Governor of Poker 2 invites players into the imaginary world of poker, back in the Wild West.
Although the game is all about poker, poker itself doesn't occupy all of the game. While there are many gambles to be made, and hopefully games to be won, the title offers a storyline and other features that help to give the game some purpose and drive it along.
The story is that poker is highly illegal. In effort to set things straight and prove the game is legit with the governor of Texas, players must travel throughout the state and play as many tournaments as possible. While passing through a variety of towns, players have the chance to enter daily games through the town's saloon. While in town, and not at the table, any on hand cash and winnings can be used to purchase property. Like many other simulation type games, owned property earns income on a daily basis - and more properties bring in more money that can be used at the table. Players can also wander end explore the towns, and speak to its citizens while taking a break from the gambling.
At the table, Texas Hold'em is played. A varied cast of AI NPC (artificial intelligence/non-player character) characters do their best to both play and bluff their way through a game. Interestingly, and to benefit of the game - each character has been given a unique personality, and their particular behavior and mannerisms are helpful in calling a bluff or determining a strong hand during tournament play.
In addition to story mode, quick rounds of poker can also be had, and for those that are new to poker or are just beginning will enjoy the included Texas Hold'em tutorial and tip sheets that explain potential hands being held.
Governor of Poker 2 is an enjoyable casual game that brings an increased level of simulation over its predecessor, and is appropriate for all ages. The game can be found as a demo or for purchase through Bigfishgames.com.
