Governor Sanford Exit Leaves Grand Strand in Shambles for 2011

Governor Mark Sanford attended a farewell event on Thursday in Murrells Inlet at the South Strand 's Republican Club. In addition to Gov. Sanford's goodbye party, his eight year governorship will be remembered as a bittersweet one.

Governor Sanford judgment calls pertaining to how well the Grand Strand was promoted throughout his eight year tenure draws a blank with many residents throughout the Grand Strand and lower Pee Dee area. Despite what Gov. Sanford had promised Grand Strand residents at the time he took office, indeed, turned out to be disappointing at best, relating to his broken promises, and lack of funds that never reached the area. According to Rep. Tracy Edge, R-North Myrtle Beach, " Sanford didn't usually address local issues."

Rep. Edge has also gone on record to communicate that, "I would have liked to have seen him take a stronger stand on local needs." In favor of any resident that has lived on the Grand Strand for more than ten years, the greater parts of residents are quite aware that the "good ol' boy" policies have negated the image of the Grand Strand for much too long.

It is a well known documented fact that Gov. Sanford Republican constituents cannot recall of him making any decisions that helped grow the Grand Strand's tourism during his eight year tenure.

On looking back at Gov. Mark Sanford's political career as a South Carolina Governor, and a United States House of Representatives Congressman, it will be one that many South Carolina residents would rather forget as a dream that preceded into an unpardonable nightmare.

As Gov. Sanford term comes to a close, one could only hope and pray that the newly designated Gov. Nikki Haley will have a conscious relating to the needs of Grand Strand residents, and the growth of the community as a whole.
