Gowanus Community Advisory Group Meeting Highlights
Neighborhood: Gowanus
Brooklyn, NY 11217
United States of America
The first Community Advisory Group (CAG) meeting took place on October 26 at the Old American Can Factory at 232 Third St. The meeting started out with an overview of the Superfund timeline and CAG members introduced themselves.

The meeting consisted for 57 CAG members and was broken into small groups to discuss important issues regarding the Gowanus Canal. One of the main concerns mentioned about the canal is the sewage overflow that is spilling into it.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is currently determining the extent of contamination in the Gowanus Canal. The EPA also found that some of the mud in the canal is as high as 5 ft and it will have to be dredged out. For more information, visit the US Department for Environmental Protection's Region 2 website.
