According to several accounts in October, so far, Gowanus is going green, clean, and artsy, too.

First, the Green Homes N.Y.C.'s Sustainability Street Fair took place this month, according to the NY Post, at which "visitors educated themselves on the green life." And one of the fair's co-directors, Angela Conant, said, "The neighborhood is becoming an arts Mecca. Gowanus's creative folk can definitely tell their art from their elbow."

Next, the Brooklyn Paper reported that Chemtura Corporation, a Connecticut chemical company, has agreed to pay $3.9 million toward cleaning up the Gowanus Canal.

Finally, "residents of one apartment building handed out energy efficient CFL light bulbs, for free" this Sunday as part of a Global Work Party to fight global warming, reports The Brooklyn Ink.

Not a bad month, so far.

Till next time, Gowanus.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
