Ingredients
Goya Recaito Cilantro Cooking Base is available in small or large sizes, frozen or in a glass bottle. Goya Recaito Cilantro Cooking Base contains water, onions, green peppers, soybean, salt, modified food starch, garlic powder, monosodium glutamate, flour, citric acid and oregano. In bold lettering a printed warning states: CONTAINS SOYBEAN which is helpful for those who may be allergic to soybeans or have other health problems associated with soybeans. There are no long multi-syllabic hard to pronounce preservatives and other such ingredients listed.
Where to Purchase
Goya Recaito Cilantro Cooking Base can be purchased in many local supermarkets usually found in the Goya, ethnic foods or Hispanic food section. I have purchased Goya Recaito Cilantro Cooking Base in Walmart, Kroger's, and Publix supermarkets. Goya Recaito Cilantro Cooking Base is available in frozen food sections if you prefer the frozen version of this product. Once opened, the contents should be kept refrigerated to avoid spoilage and to preserve freshness. An expiration date is printed on its top and it is vacuum sealed for consumer protection. If the seal does not pop up when opened for its first use or appears to have been previously opened do not purchase.
How to Use
I use Goya Recaito Cilantro Cooking Base for cooking dark green vegetables such as collards, mustard greens, stringbeans, cabbage (both red and green) and green peas. Goya Recaito Cilantro Cooking Base adds a delicious, subtle but not overpowering flavor to the vegetables. When I cook the vegetables, I steam them in a mixture of chicken or beef broth, dried or diced onions and minced garlic, and margarine to which I add 1 to 2 tablespoons of Goya Recaito Cilantro Cooking Base. I then add the vegetables and let it simmer until the vegetables are cooked. As it simmers, the flavors blend to make a full-bodied vegetable dish. In stews, when using the cooking base, I add a few cut pieces of habanero peppers which adds zest to the stew.
Cost
I purchased the 12 ounce bottle of Goya Recaito Cilantro Cooking Base at a cost of $2,38 for a 12 ounce bottle. I consider the cost to be reasonable for the amount of product contained in the bottle.
