A recent report in the journal Neurology from the French medical research institute INSERM bears out that coffee protect women from the debilitating dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
For years we have been told to get away from drinking the coffee so much, now this contradiction that we need coffee to keep our mental deterioration. Not just a cup of coffee either. The report states that we need at least 3 cups of coffee, or more, daily to stop or prevent cognitive deterioration.
The study also showed that men do not seem to be affected by consuming the coffee in regards to brain function. But men are less prone to cognitive malfunctions on the same levels as women. Biology seems to play a large part in the deterioration of the brain between men and women. Men who imbibed in coffee had no differing affects from men who did not drink any coffee at all.
So do not stop drinking that cup of coffee. It takes years of coffee drinking to notice the affects Women over 80 who drank lots of coffee have a 70 percent less cognitive decline than their peers who drink one cup or less a day. This is great news for us coffee drinkers. We can now grow old and still be sharp as a tack.
There have already been studies showing coffee drinking can help prevent coronary heart disease. The heavier coffee drinkers had significantly lower risks of coronary heart disease.
Of course just drinking our coffee is not the only thing in keeping our brain functioning tip top. We still need to stay active and keep learning fresh new things to keep our brains working. We also need to get plenty of exercise, eat right and get the appropriate amount of rest to keep our brains functioning crisp.
Is coffee going to now be one of those super foods for women's health? Instead of ordering a diet drink or water with our meals, when we dine out, we can now order up a cup of coffee. After all, all that extra coffee is going to create a much more stimulating conversation at the dinner table.
