Grab a Quick Lunch in Montpelier, Vermont

Rick Young
Lunch break never lasts quite as long as you'd like it to. As a result, many people put up with fast food, day after day. There's no reason to settle for poorly prepared food in Burlington, just because you're in a hurry. Try one of these places, you'll be able to get in and out quickly, and enjoy a handmade, quality meal.

1) Pinky's Deli, 14 State Street
(802) 223-1300

Pinky's is a small eclectic deli offering a range of made-to-order sandwiches, soup, and soft-drinks. Cozy and convenient, it's a great place to pop in to for a sandwich to go, or to sit and enjoy your lunch on-premises. Seating is limited, so in good weather, I recommend that folks grab their sandwich and make the short walk up State Street to the State House lawn, where you can enjoy your lunch picnic-style.

2) Positive Pie II, 22 State Street

(802) 229-0453

This is perhaps the quickest lunch you can get downtown. Positive Pie has a large selection of gourmet pizzas available by the slice. Walk to the back of the sit-down dining area and you'll find a lunch-bar by the back door, complete with beverage coolers. The thoughtful staff will toss your selected slices back into the pizza oven for 60 seconds or so, ensuring a hot, delicious slice of pizza every time. Affordable and tasty!

3) Rhapsody, 28 Main Street
http://www.rhapsodynaturalfoods.org/
(802) 229-6112

Rhapsody is really something special for the natural foods lover. Cafeteria-style dining featuring a hot-foods bar, a cold-foods salad bar, and a small sushi bar all self-serve. Everything is made fresh daily, and there's an impressive selection of natural food, including desserts. Food is purchased by weight. I like to start with a bed of brown rice, covered with gingered mashed sweet potatoes, and a selection of steamed spiced veggies. Hearty, quick, and healthy. Enjoy!

Just because you live life on the run doesn't mean you need to commit yourself to a life of Quarter Pounders and brown salads. Try out one (or all) of these establishments for a relatively quick lunch without sacrificing quality! Bon appetit!
