Grace's Love

S. Morris
Grace felt alone on that cold winters night. She just got off work and was heading to her apartment. It was February tenth and she felt especially sad around this time of year. It being four days till Valentines. She was going to go home to her empty apartment. She had no one to love for Valentines Day in her life. She moved to the busy city of New York seven years ago. She moved from a small town in California called, Paradise. That's what it was to her to, Paradise. She never really wanted to move from there, but she knew the career of being a writer and publisher would not go far there. So she made up her mind to leave there along time ago. To launch her promising career. That she always dreamed of. Her distant family, felt no sadness of her absence. So she knew that this would work out just fine for her. So when she turned twenty she was offered a internship at a big publishing company. She took it right away. She could not wait for her start of her career to begin. Her dream was coming true. so she packed and left. Who Knew the loneliness would get to her. Then abruptly she awoke to the cab driver s voice. Mame were here. Oh, thank you she said quietly as she paid him. She stepped out into the cold breeze. She walked up the three flights of stairs and reached her door. as she unlocked the door she could not help but feel the sadness creep up on her. Another lonely night in her apartment. At least there was a beautiful view of the city lights. As she made dinner, some pasta and a salad. She sat down to watch a love story. How come she had not found the love of her life yet? She never knew or felt love in her life. She got ready for bed and laid down to read a book. Then Grace found herself in a daze of the past. When she moved here seven years ago. She had nothing and was just starting her career. As the days passed she worked her way up and had everything she wanted. Though in all that time she rarely saw or heard from her family. Yet to find love either. When she woke up It was Six thirty am. She had one and a half hours to get ready for work. She got up. Made a cup of coffee. then got ready for work. She hurried up the street with her face snuggled in her scarf. Trying to keep the morning coldness from freezing her nose. When she got to work she was one of the first to arrive. That was her had to be there early and get started. She went in her office and started her day. Around ten forty seven she got a call. Grace here? Grace you have a call from Anna, your sister. Do you have time right now for this call? Um.. sure. Okay. Hello? Hi grace. How are you? I'm good. I'm a little surprised your calling though. I have not spoken to you for a while? Well.... Anna hesitated. What's wrong Anna? Dad's in the hospital. He had a stroke. Is he all right? Honestly, I don't know Grace. We have waited along time, but no answers yet. Grace can you come home? Please! I will see what I can do Anna. Okay, that would be great. Bye. Bye. She sat there not sure what just happened. She walked out her office and as she passed the secretary Emily she told her to hold calls. She said she would. As she went up the elevator to her bosses office she hoped he would not mind. When she got into his office she saw him sitting at his desk on his computer. Hello Grace, How are you? Mr. Wallace can I take a week off. He quickly said that would be just fine but asked if she could tell him why. She told him about her father. He said he was so sorry then told her to take two weeks off she nodded her head okay and said thank you. He was always a kind man, almost like a father. She went back to her office to close up. Then she told Emily the secretary, to rely the messages to her. She asked if everything was okay and she explained everything to her. She wished best of luck . Then Grace left to her house to pack. On her way over to California . She felt so nervous, scared, and sad. How could she not have called them more often. When she landed. She spotted her sister with her husband . She was pregnant. They had been married for four years and so in love. Grace was envious of her older sister. They hugged, got her bags, and headed to the hospital to see their dad. How is he/ Well there not sure. Until the tests come back were kind of left in the dark. Her heart pounded as she walked to the door. She opened the door. There on the bed her dad lay. He looked worn out. He was talking to a young man maybe three years older than her. He was very handsome. Her sister came in behind her. Oh, hi Mr. Thompson, this i Grace. My sister. He stepped forward and shook her hand, nice to meet you. I was just in here telling your dad that everything looks fine from the results, but he will need plenty of rest.. Well, I'll let you all visit. Thank you Mr. Thompson. Your welcome Grace. ? But please call me Eric. She smiled. She blushed when she saw her sister looking.Sh smiled too. Dad how are you feeling? Like I just got hit by a truck. Gracie, how are you? We missed you. Really? I guess I felt like you didn't. Of course we did. They all talked for hours. Then it was getting late so they left. On the way out she kept thinking how they all missed her so much. She always thought they didn't care before. If it wasn't for this happening to her father, they wouldn't have been brought together. Maybe a blessing in disguise? Grace? A voice made her come out of her daze. It was Mr. Thompson. She told them to go ahead with out her shed catch up. I was just wandering if you would go on a date with me? surprised, she paused. Um...sure. He said he would pick her up at her sisters house. Tomorrow at seven pm. She was so nervous when seven came around the next day. She heard a knock at the door and said shed get it. When she answered it, she saw how handsome he was. He looked at her in aw. She looked so beautiful. They left and went to a pretty restaurant. Then went for a walk in the park and talked about everything. They found they had so much in common. She had never felt so much love for someone before. He looked at her like no other had before. He obviously felt the same for her as she did for him. The chilly night did not bother either of them. The stars were out and the night felt so romantic. The next thing she knew the night had flew by. It soon would be twelve and Valentines Day! She was looking at the creek trickling down the way. Then she turned to face him, he was gazing at her in love and then spoke, Happy Valentines Day and leaned to her and kissed her. That Valentines Day was her first time ever falling in love.
