The Graco product recall announcement, available on the baby product company's website, states that the more than two dozen injuries reported thus far may have occurred due to screws loosening and/or because of cracked plastic brackets. Either issue can result in the legs coming loose, rendering the high chair unstable and increasing the likelihood of a serious injury to a child.
In light of the injury reports and the potential fall hazard posed by the faulty high chair components, Graco has decided to recall "about 1.2 million" highchairs that may be affected. The Graco Harmony Highchair, a popular choice for many new parents due to name-brand recognition, is on sale at stores nationwide, as well as through many online vendors, for between $66-109. This 2010 Graco high chair recall affects models manufactured as far back as November 2003, and as recently as December of 2009.
The Graco high chair recall notification provides a rather detailed list of model numbers for consumers to check against products they may own or are considering purchasing, and advises that "affected model numbers may begin with the letter A, B, C, or D." It is advised that parents (or anyone who may have a Graco high chair for use by other people's children, such as in baby-sitting or day-care settings) immediately check the model number on their high chairs and compare it to the numbers on the list. If your model is affected, do not use your high chair until you contact Graco for a repair kit.
