Graco Strollers Recalled

Graco, a major manufacturer of baby products, announced on it's company blog this morning that it is recalling a number of it's strollers. Presently, it looks like three models of strollers are being recalled, which are the Passage, Alano, and Spree models, and only select versions of each model. The strollers that are being recalled were manufactured before March 2008. They're being recalled because of a potential risk of injury to children caused by the hinge on these models. So far, five children have had their fingertips severed and two have cut their fingers on these hinges.

A voluntary recall is in place, which means it's up to the consumer to decide on whether or not to act on it. If a consumer decides, they can actually request a protective hinge cover from Graco, free of charge. There's no need to actually return the item, since the reason for the recall can easily be fixed by ordering a hinge cover.

The strollers were manufactured in China and were sold at many major retailers, including Wal-Mart, Target, Babies R Us, Toys R Us, and Kmart, to name a few. There are about 1.5 million strollers that are being recalled.

You can find an order form for the hinge cover on the company website's blog, where you can also get a list of the model numbers that are affected. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission also has the model numbers list, which may be a better bet since Graco's company website is getting slammed with traffic since the recall announcement.
