Grades and Game Systems

R. Hill
Recently I was sitting at my desk doing research for video game rental 123, and a co worker brought up the question "should her husband by a PS3 for their son whom got a grade of F in one of his classes?" So I ask you the question when is it ok to purchase a video game system? When do kids, grades, and video games compete for the attention of the gamer?

The Consoles

The games and consoles are costing more for single parents, or parents that make below the poverty line. When and what console do you buy for a kid getting all C's in class. The kid that doesn't take out the trash let alone clean the room you have been asking him to do for weeks. See in the past games were a privilege and now a lot of parents are using them to teach, baby sit, and entertain the youth while they consume themselves with themselves. Which system do you buy, is it the Cadillac of systems, say the PS3, or is it the journey man of the X box 360, or do you go for the kid friendly Wii. I believe that grades along with the kids maturity level will dictate which system he/ she gets. If you bring home Cadillac grades you get Cadillac games. If you bring home Yugo grades you get You go to your room and don't come out your room, but to use the bathroom and eat.

Grades and Video Games

I have an eight year old son, he gets all A's in class maybe a B here and there. Grades and Video games play and interesting tune together. My son was catching on to videos and games at an early age. These games kind of reinforced our lessons on reading and being a good person. The games he mostly played were Mario, Donkey Kong, and a few other kid titles. He was reading every thing that came on the screen. But, then I noticed that with a lot of his games now he does not read as much, he pushes the button so fast that he is skipping by the instructions and he is figuring it out as he goes into the game. He took a test when he came back to school from summer break, because he is in the 3rd grade now. The teacher said he did not do well, and she was surprised because he was one of her best students. We found out that he is having a problem with reading comprehension and that he understands when you talk to him, but he has a problem putting stories together when he reads them. I told my wife that maybe it's because the stories do not interest him, and that he could read and tell you all about Naruto, or Dragon ball Z. We are getting on him and are starting to read stories to him and have him fill out forms to help him build on his listening skills and story recognition skills. Parents need better skills when it comes to video games and kids grades. If you monitor your kids and only allow them to play if they finish there homework and bring home good grades, kids across America would be A,B students and loving their video games.
