First, decide what kind of party you want to throw. Do you want a theme or just a plain old fashioned get together? Having a theme is fun, but it can get costly. Themes like luaus, western barbeque or college themes are expensive when you add all of the decorations and party favors. Not to mention the food! This needs to match the theme to make it properly themed. Luaus are known for the pig roasts. Pricing a whole or half hog needs to be done at a butcher. This arises the question, Do you have a butcher in your town? The western barbeque can some what be easy. Cook up some hot dogs and hamburgers. If you have macaroni or potato salad, the ingredients are what can get you price wise.
Decorations are easily bought through party supply companies. At www.orientaltrading.com , you can find decorations, place settings and party favors for themed parties. It isn't expensive, but it can be if you buy in large quantities. Themed parties should have coordinating settings and favors to make it seem all natural. Here again are where the costs come.
To throw a graduation party on a budget or for the average working Joe, here it is. Try getting a pavilion in a public park. If this doesn't seem good for you, what about your own back yard? This is more common than what you think. It is cost effective. You don't need to pay for rental or for the extra cleaning done prior or after your party. Restrooms are handy. No worries about that. The cooking is just as easy. If you own a gas grill, go to your local supermarket or preferably your closest Sam's Club and buy the hamburgers and hot dogs in huge quantities. The buns for these and the condiments can also be purchased here.
Plates and napkins are next on your list. Why use paper plates? You have plates in your house don't you? Use them and wash them. Not only is this a cheap way to save money, but it's also a greener thought. Napkins, use the cloth ones. Once again, cost effective and greener. Doesn't it make so much more sense? Getting two for the price of one.
Decorations are by far the hardest idea. I don't see why people would go and buy such expensive things! Make your own! Whatever college your graduate is going to, make a poster for them. The poster boards are only 50 cents at Wal-Mart. You can write on them whatever you want. Way to go, good luck at wherever or just plan old congrats.
If you need to cut costs, the sky is the limit. All you need to do is use your imagination!
