Grammar Rules that Really Rock - a Humorous Look at English Grammar

Tracie Walker
When you are learning grammar, you have to learn the rules. But sometimes the best way to learn grammar rules is to learn what NOT to do. When I was beginning to write, someone gave me these helpful, hilarious grammar rules that cover all the bases. Maybe you'll learn something about grammar, but if not, at least you'll have a good laugh!

Rules for Good Writing

1. Don't use no double negative.

2. Make each pronoun agree with their antecedent.

3. Join clauses good, like a conjunction should.

4. About them sentence fragments.

5. When dangling, watch your participles.

6. Verbs has to agree with their subjects.

7. Just between you and I, case is important too.

8. Don't write run-on sentences they are hard to read.

9. Don't use commas, which aren't necessary.

10. Try to not ever split infinitives.

11. It's important to use your apostrophe's correctly.

12. Proofread your writing to see if you any words out.

I also learned how important punctuation could be. Changing punctuation can change everything, as the following scenario demonstrates.

Punctuation Does Make a Difference

Dear Robert,

I want a man who knows what love is about. You are generous, kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we're apart. I can be forever happy. Will you let me be yours?

Linda

As opposed to:

Yours,

Linda

I hope you enjoyed these funny little grammar rules!
