Grammy Nominees 2004 - Grammy A. K. A. Popularity Contest - a Fragmented Music Album Review

Not Necessarily the Best in the Biz but Its Music that You Don't Have to Be a Rocket Scientist to Get the Point

The 2004 Grammy Nominees is filled with a great variety of music. Although mostly pop rock and pop rap. You get a few gems like Warren Zevon's "Keep Me In Your Heart" and George Harrison's "Any Road". Even if its constructed almost entirely of popular mainstream music, its a nice album to purchase. Many times I hear a song on the radio and think its pleasant and catchy. Yet, I don't want to go out and spend my green backs on a whole album by this person. I found that by buying this c.d. I got many of those popular songs that I wanted. It's a nice compilation for those who want to sample.

The Rundown

1. Beyonce Featuring Jay-Z "Crazy In Love"

This is Beyonce's crazy hit. A real party starter. Its not really a fast pace song and her singing is mellow. The combination of her singing, the beats and especially the trumpets give it a nice oomph. (The song is a mixture between Dance and R&B) Its the catchy song of the year, winning over every one.

2. The Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake "Where is the Love?"

Personally, I don't think that many musical artist approach the subject of love and justice like time of past. A chance is found here where love and justice is high lighted accompanied by some compassion. With lyrics pleading for you to gravitate to love. This song is catchy, positive, and searching for an answer rather than just dropping blame with out any further concern. Not only is this a good song but it also holds a good message.

3. Coldplay "Clocks"

For a good while I hated this song. Straight and utterly detested it. All because of its over usage by radio, movies, commercials, and the promotion of the grammies. It was like STOP!!!! What have I done to receive such tribulation!?!?!?! That is when my personal segregation began between me and all entertainment outlets. My own protest to this anti-Christ like song. Then.. My wife.. Said that she liked this song. Then I had no other choice but to like it too. As we all know..... I HAVE to like what my woman likes. But I digress. Now, after well deserved time in therapy, I have come to my acceptance stage. I no longer HATE, I know Tolerate. ("Clocks" is a melodic rock song sung sweetly and softly by Coldplay.)

4. EMINEM "Lose Your Self"
Now this is a song that is opposite of "Clocks". (I LIKE IT) This is a mature rap song that is splendid and prolific. Here EMINEM conjure up something that musically blows you out of the water. A real rap triumph. The beats are fresh and the lyrics create a strong feeling. An awesome musical experience.

5. Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott "Work It"
Here we have another rap/hip hop song. It is very uninspired. The lyrics have not too much imagination. On the plus side however it does have great beats and is very catchy. After a few listens, it will be running spheres in your mind. Not much intelligent writing but rhythmically enticing.

6. Evanescence "Going Under"

"Going Under" is a solid rock song. Full of energy and with an undertone of softness. It is heart felt. It invokes deep feeling. A big plus is the powerful yet sweet and seductive way that singer Amy Lee sings it all. Instrumentally the best part is the guitar solo at the end of the track.

7. Outcast "The Way You Move"
Full of soul and out of control. I love Outcast way of using instrumental arrangements to create a certain musical setting. In this song you have the calm and nonchalant rap and then it takes off with the moving danceable chorus. Like something out of the 70's but betta. "The Way You Move" makes me want to say I like the way you make music...

8. Justin Timberlake "Cry Me A River"
I don't know what more crazy that he wants to be like Mike Jackson or that he dated Slutty Spears. This song is pleasant in a R&B wanna be pop song kind of way. It is catchy and smooth but after a few listens it becomes bland and ruff.

9. Christina Aguilera "Beautiful"

She also is crazy. Wanting to be a revel of some sort but resulting in looking like a freak. (And not the good kind I might add.) Her voice is truly beautiful. Its very soulful. This song is all that and more. It releases the expression of self worth. Also, the fact that you cannot let others guide your sense of self. The value is yours to size up.

10. Avril Lavigne "Im With You"
Now back to things I HATE!! I don't like Avril Le Squirm. WHY??? She is fake, fugazi, unreal, and most of all the fact that she is a fabricated artist. Manipulated by her label and what's as they say IN. The Matrix arranged most of her music. That is why they sound some what good. This song is worth tolerating but the lyrics are sadly childish.

11. Luther Vandross "Dance With My Father"

This is a touching song. Heart felt feeling. An epic in song form.

12. Warren Zevon "Keep Me In Your Heart"

This song I truly did love. It is fantastical fun, gracious, and a great comfort to listen to. The song I would want to be played in my funeral. It pounds at the reminder of keeping me in your heart.

13. 50 Cent "In Da Club"
I liked this song. It was very catchy and has excellent beats. It is the perfect party/club song. A shake and move musical occurrence.

14. Fountains of Wayne "Stacy's Mom"
N/A

15. Heather Headly "I wish I wasn't"
N/A

16. Sean Paul "Gimme the Light"

This is truly a show starter. It is magnificently fun. Even if I can never understand what he says its still a great party song.

17. George Harrison "Any Road"

This is another song that I loved. It is jolly and imaginative. Fills mind with colorful feeling images. Smart and greatly filled with intellect. You hate to see such awesome talent pass on and leave us with out any more musical pieces to feast on.

18. Michael McDonald "Aint no mountain high enough"
I preferred the original. This rendition just rubbed me in a icky way. I mean wrong way.

19. Sting "Send Your Love"
N/A

20. Eagles "Hole in the World"
N/A

21. Matchbox Twenty "Unwell"
This another song that is catchy and mainstream popular. It is a good song but does not go the distance. It is rather bland. It shows you the idea but fails in explaining it. The chorus is catchy but my would be fave part would be about finding himself impaired, yet that is lost in the shuffle lacking emotion. Music accompanied by a muffled voice.

And the nominees are...

This is a collection of catchy fun songs. Not necessarily the best in the biz but its music that you don't have to be a rocket scientist to get the point.
