Grammys 2011, Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber Fall Short; Lady Gaga's Eggs-cellent Entry (Links)

While Christina Aguilera redeemed herself at last night's 53d Annual Grammys Award Show, at least the singing ability and talent part, Justin Bieber lost best new artist to Esperanza Spalding, and Lady Gaga arrived in a giant, opaque egg.

Christina Aguilera, who flubbed the lines of the National Anthem on Super Bowl Sunday February 6, had exactly seven days to practice and potentially redeem herself while performing in a tribute to Aretha Franklin at the 2011 Grammys.

Aguilera did just that. Her vocals were incredible and as she stood in the center of other performers Florence Welch, Martina McBride, Jennifer Hudson and Yolanda Adams, Aguilera clearly wowed the audience with Franklin's "Ain't No Way".

It was all going so well. In fact, the audience rose to give the five gals a standing ovation for their performance, but then Aguilera slipped and started to fall. Fortunately, it wasn't a full-fledged down on your rear fall; rather, it was a minor slip and with some help she was able to get back up.

Another artist experiencing a bit of a 'fall' was teen throb Justin Bieber who lost out to Esperanza Spalding for Best New Artist. Bieber's fans were shocked and are still tweeting away wildly about the near infraction!

Justin spoke about the loss, too saying, "I had no clue what was going to happen. I worked really hard these past few years and you know, I'm not going to lie - I was disappointed."

However, sometimes losses like this only strengthen a person's resolve to become better as Bieber proclaimed he would. "But, you know, I'm gonna come back [next year] and we'll take a few home."

Spalding (and yes that crazy hair is her natural hair!) also beat out Drake, Florence and the Machine, and Mumford & Sons which has caused an incredible surge of web traffic today for those wanting to know more about her.

And of course there was Lady Gaga who arrived to the Grammys in an egg. And just like the talk that Gaga's new song 'Born This Way' borders on Madonna's 'Express Yourself', it almost seems that Gaga's attempts of shocking people are starting to wear thin as well.

However, it wasn't Madonna who inspired Gaga for her 'Born This Way' hit.

Last night after receiving the Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy, Gaga made it perfectly clear that the 'Material Girl' has nothing to do with her when it comes to musical inspiration, stating, "I want to say thank you to Whitney Houston. When I wrote 'Born This Way' I imagined you were singing it because I wasn't secure enough to see myself as a superstar."

Great article. (Priscilla King referred it to me, because I wrote an article about Esperanza Spalding.)
