Grand Canyon Accomodations: What Every Visitor Should Know

Mike Beede
People who plan their vacations to the Grand Canyon are treated to a dazzling array of options. Tourism in and around the Grand Canyon National Park has grown exponentially since its humble beginnings in the early 1900's, and as the number of people visiting the Park has grown, so has the number of facilities both inside the Park itself and around it. Because of the intensive growth of tourism at the Park, early booking of your room reservations has become very important. The warm summer weather brings the great bulk of tourists to the Grand Canyon, so reserving your summer stay at or near the Canyon should be done as early as possible.

Within the Grand Canyon National Park, you can find an array of lodging to suit every budget and comfort level, from fine dining, to cabins, to RV facilities, to camping areas with showers. At the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, these facilities are arranged around or near the Grand Canyon Village, where you can also find a general store, post office, bank, and restaurants. You can also arrange rafting and hiking tours at the lodges, but it is recommended that all tours be arranged prior to arrival to save time, money, and convenience.

Just beyond the National Park border in Tusayan, you can also find a number of motels. resorts, and other amenities.

Tusayan is a town 2 miles south of the Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim entrance. It is a tiny town that has grown in response to the popularity of the Grand Canyon as a vacation destination. As a result, the town has a number of good hotels and restaurants, and borders the Grand Canyon National Park Airport from which so many of the Grand Canyon's helicopter and airplane tours originate.

In Tusayan, hotels offer full service hotel amenities such as restaurant onsite, high speed internet, heated pool, fitness center, hot tub, steam rooms, tanning beds, barber and beauty shop, game room, concierge, meeting facilities, even a bowling center. Many are convenient to the IMAX Theater and all Tusayan tour activities.

Also in the town of Tusayan, you can find the Grand Canyon IMAX Theater where you can see an informative 34-minute film that takes you from the Grand Canyon's ancient history to modern times. It is a good way to learn all that the Grand Canyon offers to vacationers, and inside the Visitors Center, you can see a number of exhibits and visit the National Geographic Store. It's an experience that's fun for the whole family, and a good jumping off point for your Grand Canyon visit.
