The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hotel is appealing to both small town and big city visitors. Patrons of the hotel enjoy convenient access to local shops, restaurants, and cafes in downtown Traverse City, Michigan. The tiny city center is crowded with specialty shops catering to their eclectic visitors. The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hotel is also located just yards away from sandy beaches, making it an ideal getaway for those in need of a seaside retreat.

Upon leaving the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hotel, rows of buildings in quaint Traverse City provide shelter from the gusty wind and lure shoppers to the unique stores. The shops carry a variety of cherry merchandise ranging from cherry caramels and chocolate-covered dried red tarts, to Leelanau Peninsula cherry wine. The region around the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hotel is known as Traverse City, "cherry capital of the world". Cherry enthusiasts can also indulge in cherry soaps and body creams, and other cherry souvenirs. You don't want to leave this area without picking up a fresh-baked cherry pie from the Grand Traverse Pie Company.

The town of Traverse City, near Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hotel, has an independent northern flare. Shoppers dive into stores to seek relief from the robust whipping wind. Some of the choice escapes are a beauty shop called Venus, Peppercorn kitchen goods, and the Watermelon Sugar Gallery. Fighting all the gusty wind can whip up an appetite, which can be appeased at the Dish Cafe, a vegetarian restaurant. There's nothing like a fresh brewed beer to satisfy your thirst after a good meal. The North Peak Brewing Company can fill that need very well. I had the Northern Light golden ale when I visited and loved every drop of it.

Although food is available at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hotel, our trip through Traverse City stirred up quite an appetite. It is impossible to return to the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hotel without being overstuffed with local delicacies. Vegetarian food is good, but not very filling, and who can resist the smell of the food wafting from the classic Don's Drive-in? Waitresses clad in 1950's style attire serve classic hamburgers, chili-dogs, and fruity shakes. The atmosphere of Don's Drive-in is addictive and I expect to return there frequently.

Upon our return to the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hotel the debate begins over whether to hit one of the 3 on-site golf courses, take a relaxing trip to the spa, or to try our luck at the in-house casino.

There is a bar in the marble-floored comfortably posh Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hotel Tower that entertains guests near the Tower Shops. The conveniently located stores offer sweet delicacies, leisure ware, and children's toys. Upon return to our hotel room it is time to feast upon our wide variety of sweet delicacies that we obtained on our trip to Traverse City. The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa hotel is the gateway to the cherry capitol of the world.

The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is located near Traverse City, known as the "cherry capital of the world". The resort features 3 golf courses, a spa, and an on-site gambling casino. The area of Traverse City is famous for a variety of cherry delicacies, including cherry wine.
