Grandad Knocked Off His Moped by Teenage Thugs for Tooting His Horn

Hoodlums Give 68 Year Old Man a Broken Leg and Ankle

A Grandad who tooted his horn at a group of teenagers who would not get out of the road got knocked off his moped and given a broken leg and ankle.

Sammy Coups who is 68, served in the army for more than 18 years, and who was awarded five service medals, was riding his moped home from the Royal British Legion Club in the small town of Wool in Dorset, to his home in Bovington, which is also the home of the Royal Armoured Corps.

He had to swerve to miss two teenagers, who were in the road and with their backs to him, and tooted his horn to warn them that he was there.

The pair said that "nobody toots their horn at us", and threw a bottle at Mr Coups, hitting him on the back of the head, and knocking him off his bike.

They then came over to him, pulled their t-shirts over their heads so he couldn't see their faces, and started jumping on his head.

Fortunately passers by came to his aid, and the pair of teenage thugs ran off.

Mr Coups is still in the Dorset County Hospital where his injuries, which include a broken ankle and broken leg are being treated.

The police are looking for witnesses so that they can apprehend these thugs.

A 17 year old youth was apparently arrested and then released on bail while enquiries continue.

It's a sad world isn't it, where elderly people who have served their country, can't feel safe in their own country. So many of the youth of today just have no respect for anyone, especially the elderly, who are not usually capable of defending themselves.

I feel that thugs like these ought to be enrolled into the army and sent out to places like Afghanistan, where they might just learn to respect those who have fought and often lost their lives, to defend the country that they live in and disrespect so much.

Why were they standing in the road anyway? This kind of thing makes me so angry. It's just senseless and cruel. Luckily someone stopped to help him or he could have been killed over something so stupid.

There is no respect on the roadways these days, and this kid is the epitome of ignorance.

Makes me angry. I agree with your conclusion, with the added punishment that they spend a lot of their off duty time in the punishment-oreinted jobs like latrine duty, etc/

Doesn't matter how much they think they are hiding their identity. They were seen by the one with whom it matters...
