Granderson is Going to New York

Detroit Lets Granderson and Jackson Go in Attempt to Cut Payroll

Spy Radio
It's finally a done deal. Granderson is headed to the Bronx. The New York Yankees obtained Granderson in a three way deal between themselves, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Detroit Tigers.

Detroit Tigers got:

SP Max Scherzer

OF Austin Jackson

RP Phil Coke

RP Daniel Schlereth

Arizona Diamondbacks got:

SP Edwin Jackson

SP Ian Kennedy

New York Yankees got:

OF Curtis Granderson

Tigers really had no other option than giving up Granderson and Jackson. They were the only players that they could get anything for. No other team is willing to pay Ordonez, 18 million, or Guillen, 13 million.

Jackson had a great season in Detroit last year and will probably have a better one in Arizona. He is moving to the National League and has a good shot a dropping is ERA by a whole percentage point.

A lot of Detroit fans are upset and sad to see Granderson go since he was such a fan favorite, but he is going to make the Yankees even better. Granderson was known for his doubles and triples in Detroit. All those doubles and triples are going to change into home runs since the Yankee Stadium left field porch is only 318 feet away. If Granderson plays on a daily basis he will have no problem hitting 40 homers and stealing 40 bases. Granderson can run and Detroit never took advantage of that. He should be attempting to steal almost every time he is on base.

Despite losing Granderson and Jackson, Detroit still has a good chance at making the playoffs. They have one of the best pitchers in the league in Justin Verlander and if Rick Porcello has a season like he did last year, they have a shot at winning their division.

In the end everything worked out. Detroit cut a small amount out of its payroll by trading Graderson and Jackson. The Yankees got a great player in Granderson, who could possibly have an all-star season. The Diamondbacks get two more starting pitchers in Jackson and Kennedy. With those guys pitching behind Brandon Webb, they will be a forced to be reckoned with.
