When I'm home alone, which is mostly every week day, because everyone is at work or at school, Occasionally, I get down, I sing while pushing my vacuum cleaners like it's nobody's business. I act like I'm a star or on American Idol. And to top it all off; my voice isn't that great. Many, many, many years ago I sang faithfully on the children and teen choir at church. Now, I sing when I'm alone.
A couple of weeks ago, my granddaughter came down with a cold. I told her that she could stay home from school, the following day, so she wouldn't get her classmates sick. I got up early that morning and did my house cleaning. I didn't sing while cleaning this morning. However, when I finished the house cleaning; I settled down in my bedroom, with the door open, and started working on the tunes for the songs in my children's book. I don't know music, but, I do a very good job putting a melody to my songs.
My daughter has a beautiful voice; she is going to record the songs for me; in case, I sell some of the books; the buyer will know how the song go. Also, family members, who have a copy, will be able to know the tunes.
So, here I was in my bedroom; just me and the empty house, I thought; forgetting a
teenager was asleep in her room, which was just across the hall from my room.
I started working on my first song. And I didn't hold back. I acted out the part. I rocked!
Puppy love is like a merry - go - round
True love is always built on very solid ground
I am the king and I know what's best
You are too young to know good grass from weed
Love grows and grows like a simple, healthy, seed
I, I, I, I am King!
I say dance, you dance; when I say sing you sing
I say jump, your answer is how high?
I say fly, you take it to the sky
Now, I say to you my son, you must take your stand
You will not change a single law of Betherland.
I AM KING!
Well, that song sounded good to me. It'll work. I have a device that is used with my 32 track that changes a female voice to a male's voice, etc. Now that I was satisfied with that piece; I jumped right into the next song.
And, wow! I really got caught up in the moment. I started acting out the character's part as I sang. I was really feeling it on this one. I was doing my thing, after all I was home alone. So, I broke out singing and adding my moves:
I thought I was a caterpillar
A creeping crawling caterpillar
But, I am not a caterpillar at all
I can still make children happy, happy as they can be
A caterpillar can never be jolly like me.
I just went on and on and on:
I'm glad I'm not a caterpillar; A caterpillar I can't be
I could never learn to creep and crawl that way
I'd rather be good old Jonathan any day
I'm Jonathan, I love to laugh and play
When I reached the end of the song; I ended with a big "Oh Yeah!" I was so happy that I finally recorded it just like I wanted it to be.
I did a little quick step and spun around and came face to face with my teenage granddaughter, who was standing in my door way with her mouth wide open.
I felt a bit silly, I said, "Hi Myra," she said "Grandma, what have you been smoking?
Is this some kind of side effect from that high blood pressure medicine you've been taking?"
I replied, "No crazy; I'm not smoking and I'm not experiencing any type side effect."
She said, "You woke me up; first you're singing about some king and now you think you're a caterpillar."
"I'm working on my book," I began, I was still feeling a bit silly as I enplained, "This witch unsuccessfully tried to turn this clown into a caterpillar. Jonathan, the clown was so happy when he discovered he wasn't a caterpillar; he started to sing," I picked up my book from the bed and showed her the cover, she looked at me and said "right."
I came back at her, "Well, if you would read my book, you would have seen these lyrics before."
That was the end of my singing for that day. At least, I got my songs together. Needless to say; I still turn loose when I'm home alone.
