This recipe was not originally written down on a card. My grandmother made it from memory. One day in the mid 1960's, when I was about 13 yrs. old, my Grandma came over to my house at my request to show me how to make her sugar pie. As she told me how to do it, making guesses at the amounts she used, I wrote it down and so now I am sharing it with you.
Prepare a pie crust in an 8 inch pan or buy one premade. Do not bake.
In a small bowl, mix the following ingredients;
3/4 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons flour
1/8 - 1/4 teaspoons salt
Dump into the bottom of pie pan.
Add a pat of butter on top along with a few drops of vanilla extract.
Pour 3/4 - 1 cup milk over the top. Sprinkle with cinnaomon on top.
Place in a 350 degree oven for approxmately 45 minutes.
After 20 minutes, shake the pan or as my Grandmother would say, "shuffle the pan".

Post a CommentYes, you bake it for like 45 minutes, as it states, but shuffle the pan 20 minutes into the baking, then finish the final 25 minutes. My grandma was funny.
Do you continue to cook it after you shuffle it?
