I will share a family recipe with you to promote this famous Pennsylvania item! Everyone should try this at least once in there life.
Ready set... Lets Bake!
Gobs
Items you will need:
1. A large mixing bowl
2. A mixing spoon
3. Liquid measuring cups
4. Dry measuring cups
5. Measuring spoons
6. Greased Cookie sheet ( suggest 2 or 3, will allow you to bake more at the same time.)
7. Wax paper
Ingredients:
2 cups of sugar
1/2 cups of Crisco
2 eggs
1 cup milk
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup bakers cocoa
1 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon vanilla
Prepare: Preheat oven to 450 degrees
In large bowl, mix together the following ingredients until smooth: Sugar, Crisco, eggs, milk, boiling water, and vanilla
Then add: flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cocoa. mix until all blended together.
Once all the ingredients are mixed well together in the large bowl, take a table spoon full of your batter and drop in a circle ( if it's not a circle, no worries they will still taste good!) Try to do 3 Rows, 3 in each on your pan. Spread out . Will allow for your gob to cook more evenly. Place in oven and bake for 5 minutes. Take out and let pan cool before removing.
While your gobs are cooking place a few long pieces of wax paper on your counter or table to put the gobs on once they are cooled. This will allow for easier clean up!
2nd part and my favorite.... Its time to make the filling!
Icing: ( I will admit this is not original recipe) I regret that i have lost it!
Items you will need:
1. Medium size bowl
2. Electric mixer ( if you do not have one, no need to panic and go out and buy one, a spoon will do just fine, just takes a little longer because of the how thick the icing will be.)
3. Rubber spatula( to scrap the excess icing out of bowl)
4. Measuring Cups
Ingredients: Pick your self up a bag or box of powdered sugar and follow the directions on the back to make icing! ( I know its cheating)
Once you've prepared your icing as directed and your gobs are cooled, you may now take a piece of the gob, put a spoon full of icing on it and put a another piece of the gob on top to make a lid! Continue this process until all of the product is made
.
Left over icing can be kept for a week in the refrigerator or can be frozen for 2 months.
You may also freeze your gobs for as long as you want!
( A personal favorite of mine, nothing like a frozen gob to satisfy a sweet tooth!)
Your all done! Dig in and Enjoy!
