Grandpa

Lee Hartsell
You were so special to me. I was your little penny,
for all to see.
You reserved a seat, just for me.
You watched me skip across the yard
and I vowed to never stop.
Years have come and gone but,
one thing stays the same.
I will always be your little penny and the reserved
seat will always be for me.

I could not cry, and did not know why.
When Mom and Dad divorced everything changed.
We moved to another city and it broke your heart.
When you died, a part of me died.
But, nothing like the death you felt, when we moved.
No tears came a year ago. No closure, only pain.

Through another mans diseased mind of Alzheimer's, I saw your hurt.
Through the silence, I saw your loss.
