Grandpa's Moisturizing Shea Butter Soap Review

The Pen
A couple of months ago, I reviewed Grandpa's Tar Oil Soap. I used the soap because I have eczema, but the strong tar scent began to get on my nerves, so I planned on trying another soap from Grandpa's brand.

I really like that the company has been making all natural soaps for decades, so I planned on using a different Grandpa's soap during the summer months, and then I was going to switch back to the Pine Tar Soap during the winter when my skin gets drier.

I went to a local health food store and I decided to try the Grandpa's Moisturizing Shea Butter Soap, since it seemed like it would be gentle and hydrating. I paid $3.59 for a 3oz bar. The soap comes in a striped lavender box with a black and white portrait of Grandpa, in the center.

The bar is a beige color and it smells faintly of lavender, but to me it basically smells unscented. The soap is all natural and contains coconut oil, palm oil, purified water, shea butter, and the essential oil of lavender, and the essence of vanilla.

The Grandpa's brand claims that the Moisturizing Shea Butter Soap is comforting, and is "helpful in healing eczema, rashes, burns, and dry chapped skin," and that the lavender and vanilla in this soap is "stress relieving and mood-lifting."

I liked that this particular bar of Grandpa's soap created a nice moisturzing lather that rinsed clean, and left my skin feeling soft and hydrated. But for some reason the Shea Butter bar just didn't blow me away in the "healing eczema" department. I can say that it didn't irritate the eczema on my skin or dry it any further, but it didn't heal it the way that the Grandpa's Pine Tar did.

Also, instead of lifting my mood, this soap really bummed me out after I began to use it every morning. I don't know if it's the lavender fragrance, or the fact that it smells unscented to me, but it's so boring that I just found it to be depressing.

In the End...

Even though the Grandpa's Moisturizing Shea Butter Soap isn't for me, I don't think it's a bad soap at all. I hate the fragrance so I won't be buying it again. But I think those with sensitive skin, or who don't want heavily dyed or fragranced soaps would like this bar a lot. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
