I always try to do something special with the grandchildren. I want them to remember me and the things we've done together.
I was thinking about my grandmother today. I guess that saying "what goes around comes around" really does happen.
One day Grandma had come over to sew with my mother. I was about twelve and one of my grandma's favorites. She spoiled me quite a bit. My grandma had eighteen grandchildren.
I was outside playing with some friends and one of them had a rubber snake. I, being a prankster dreamed up this bright idea. Grandma was sitting by the front door at the sewing machine. I opened the front door and held up the snake yelling "Look what I found." My grandma nearly had a heart attack and my mother nearly killed me. I truly felt terrible after I pulled that one.
Last weekend I had my grandsons Collin, eight and Lucas, seven over for a visit again. We did our usual movie and popcorn night. The next day, Sunday we went outside to play. It was a beautiful day and we still had about a foot of snow. I took pictures and they threw snowballs at me as I told them not to. Of course, I had to bury their faces in the snow but we had a blast.
After awhile I decided to go into the house and let them outside to play. They picked large snow mound that had been plowed up and started digging a tunnel. At one point Lucas climbed on the top and started jumping. I forewarned him not to do that, it could cave in while Collin was digging.
I came into the house and checked on them every now and then. They were very busy with their digging. As I sat reading my email I heard the door open and Lucas screaming that Collin needed help.
I jumped and ran to the door. When I looked out I saw Collin's legs flinging wildly out of the side of the snow mound. I shot out the door. By the time I reached Collin his legs went limp. My husband was starting out the door to help. I grabbed Collin's legs, started pulling and yelling his name. I suddenly hear this little voice from the snow mound asking "What?"
My hand came down across that little butt with all my might. He was so padded though he hardly felt it. He pulled himself out and asked "Why did you do that Grandma?" I explained how he scared the h---- out of me, excuse the language. There I stood in my socks and sandals fuming but relieved.
After I came back into the house I had to laugh. I told my husband that would have been something I probably would have pulled as a child. I just have to tell them both the story of the boy that cried wolf.
I guess that is one memory we will all remember.

Post a CommentI miss my grandsons :(
Fun. I have a son getting married soon (although I feel too young to be a grandma I know I will love them - I hope I'm half the grandma you are- no, they aren't on the way yet..LOL...marriage first - we prefer the old fashioned way.)
My grandkids have to be careful, because what they say or do usually ends up in one of my blogs or articles. I find all of them to be lovable, enjoyable, and quite amusing.
Reading, I've had to do other things and then my Internet goes out at night :( Finally catching up!
A fun memory indeed, and they will be sure to drag it out and tease you in some way with it.
Haha!
You are so right. Be careful what you say, they just might take it literally. As a grandfather, I have found that I have given them ideas inadvertenly but those precious moments have been worth every one. Great job Rhonda. :-)
What a sense of humor those little guys have. :-)
Boys are great! Grandma is great too!
Not a grandparent yet, but someday, I hope! Nice one Rhonda.
