Granny Our Resdent Ghost

A True Ghost Story

We moved our family from the suburbs to a rural area that was described as the boonies, into a small farmhouse. Four years earlier the old house on the hill had been a failing general store operated by a widow in her eighties, who had gone to work for the owner as a young girl and eventually married and lived her life there with husband and three children. In it's day it had been the life line for families on the wooded hillside. The gas pump was long gone, but the old out buildings remained. The back end of the small clapboard farmhouse was divided separating family quarters from the general grocery store. Electric had only made it to this area in the late 40's and was still quite minimal with no indoor plumbing or running water, and the old iron wood/coal stove stood in the cellar. We soon came to love the place which was warm and inviting, understanding how the past occupant had felt such an attachment to the energy.

As our (1 Boy & 2 Girls) grew there were normal mishaps that seemed always to be missed happenings occurring under a blanket of protection. With all three in school, I began to notice they spoke often of ol Granny in a mans flannel shirt who occasionally appeared to them. She never appeared to me, but in time I learned it was she who assisted me in keeping life ordered by resetting clocks and turning off over boiling pots. It was not only the humans that noticed this
ghostly helper but the cats and dog were prone to following an unseen energy moving through rooms. One night when I was off to a late meeting, the children were home with their father who was a sound sleeper. We had been able to provide them each with a separate bedroom by utilizing half the third floor attic for one of the girls. Her space was completely separated from the remaining attic storage by a hinged bookcase door. Also a sound sleeper, she was awaken several times that night thinking I had been shaking her. Finally she woke enough to smell smoke, which was creeping under the bookcase. Screaming for her
brother and sister, who join her in applying several buckets of water poured on smoldering floor boards from a collapsed chimney pipe, before their father woke
up. Upon my return they excitedly related the harrowing experience, declaring Granny had woke each of them. As time went by Granny was taken for granted as she mingled in our lives with her protective nature.

Time progressed and the children matured, we built a smaller barn and renovated the large stone one for living quarter, and the original old farm house was rented for needed income. One day the tenant told me she was beginning to object to the old lady that kept scaring her by moving things on a shelf or swinging the indoor hanging planters. The tenant freely admitted she often saw Granny and this always occurred after her boy friend left, but it was now happening every time he was there if they smoked pot after her mother and son went to bed. We shared experiences about Granny's visits, which led me to the conclusion she
wasn't particularly fond of the woman's activities, and didn't like foul smelling smoke with a child in the house. Shortly after that the tenant apparently took Granny's invitation to leave seriously and left. The old house was renovated, dividing it into first and second floor apartments. The first few rental prospects simply weren't interested, and then with each showing something occurred to deter renters. Someone popped a loose floor board (in all the years we'd been there had never moved), someone else was sure they saw a mouse run across the floor (with major renovations all creatures had certainly move out to quieter quarters) and there no evidence of their presence. As one couple decided they would take it , I knew someone was stacking the deck against renting when we walked into the last room and a dead bird lay in the middle of the floor, scaring the couple away. Birds just don't get in when all the windows, doors and vents are closed; or die stone cold in the hour after the room had been previously checked for showing. Later I went to the room to have a talk with Granny. I explained we needed the money for medical purposes for one of the children and the apartments had to be rented. I agreed she could choose the tenant, but she had to understand we needed the income soon, the property had to work for us if we were to keep it. Finally a young couple bubbling over with joy and love arrived, nothing happened and it was mediately rented. They were delighted to stay for the next two years till his job transferred. It was after this Granny's energy seemed to dwindle and I suggested it was time for her to go into the light to go be with her family. She wasn't ready.

Over the next few years, with tenants or during a vacant periods, Granny remained dormant until, one day, the teen age daughter of a new tenant secretly asked me if I believed in ghosts. She explained how she loved to turn her electric blanket on HI until the bed got hot, and every time she forgot and left it on she'd come back to find in turned OFF. Apparently this had been going on for several months. This was a busy family with three children. (1 Boy and 2 Girls) much like my own. Seemed like Granny was busy again watching over them as she had our family and her own for so many years. During the tenants stay they had rekindled their shaky marriage, and everyone appeared more settled content and secure under the blanket of protection Granny provided. Suddenly the family up and moved out; a few months later there was rumor the couple had separated from old recurring old problems. Granny's presence was no where in the old farmhouse while I spent days cleaning and repainting for a new rental, and I get the feeling the tenant helped her move into the light; perhaps at the peace and unity of her own family. Today their's again two sets of tenants, if Granny is their they are none the wiser. I miss her, life felt so safe and warm with our Ghostly protector.

It's important for people to understand that all is energy including the human soul. When we fear death or are reluctant to leave this plane, the energy of our soul gets caught in a field between earth and the light frequency which is our souls real home. We're all spirit having a human experience. These souls are no more bad or harmful in this state than when they lived as humans. They are simply searching for where they are intended to be, unaware they have departed human incarnation. Ghosts are fun for many as they titillate our imagination, but in reality they simply need to be told their soul can find the peace it searches for by going into the light. Ghosts are disincarnant humans, not harmful entries. They are seldom reacting to human existence, but simply moving through the energy they continue to equate as their space. In extreme cases they are stimulated to react to elements, such as fire or smoke, evoked from past memories.
