Granola in a Tetra Pak: Sweet Home Farm French Vanilla Granola
This Granola was Not Too Sweet and Made an Excellent Dessert
This was not the first Sweet Home Farm granola that I had tried, I also have tried their Maple Pecan Granola . It was not overly sweet or anything but sweet enough that it felt more like a good snack or dessert choice than a breakfast choice. Part of what attributed to this was the fact that it was not as nutritious as other cereals that I bought, so it did not seem like the wisest choice for breakfast. Although not ideal for my breakfast I still was fond of the ingredients.
The French Vanilla Granola from Sweet Home Farm consisted of rolled oats, milled cane sugar, rice flour, vegetable oil, cornstarch, almonds, honey, natural flavor and salt. The vegetable oil could have been either sunflower, safflower and/or canola oil, but I was glad that it was hydrogenated. I was not surprised to see that sugar was the second ingredient and that honey was one of the last ingredients because the flavor of honey in the granola was not overwhelming, which I actually preferred, and the granola was definitely sweet. I was surprised that vanilla or French vanilla was not mentioned in the ingredients but I imagine that was part of the natural flavor. With these ingredients in mind I imagined that the nutrition facts were probably okay.
The Sweet Home Farm French Vanilla Granola had fifteen grams of sugars per serving, but I expected that with sugar as the second ingredient. There was two hundred and forty calories, sixty-five grams of grams of sodium and thirty-nine grams of carbohydrates in a serving as well. I was most pleased to see that the granola offered three grams of fiber per serving and five grams of protein per serving and it also listed iron with eight percent and calcium with two percent. A serving size for this granola was two-thirds of a cup and there were about eleven servings per Treta Pak of granola.
The reason that I initially took interest in this brand of granola was because it came in a Tetra Pak, which is the container that half a gallon of milk or juice comes in. Surprisingly the Tetra Pak, held about the same amount of granola that other boxes hold so I thought that it was reasonably priced when I found it for three dollars. I am glad that I tried the Sweet Home Farm French Vanilla Granola and believe that I will get it again. I would recommend it as a good snack or dessert since it is not enriched but taste wise it makes a good breakfast too.
