Graphic novel and comic enthusiasts know Neufeld's work from the renowned series, "American Splendor" as well as "A Few Perfect Hours."
In 2005 Neufeld was a volunteer in the waterlogged Crescent City and his experience there influenced not only his graphic novel, "A.D.: New Orleans After the Deluge," but also a self-published book, and a blog.
When asked how the disaster influenced his work, Neufeld explains how he was profoundly affected by the pain, suffering, and destruction he saw in addition to "the lack of government intervention." The blog, with its "Katrina Came Calling" series, was the first incarnation of what would become the graphic novel.
"A.D." prominently features hurricane-stricken New Orleans citizens in the tale of human perseverance and destruction. The story is filled with sadness though it is countered with resilience.
In 2009, though starting as a web comic, "A.C." hit the "New York Times" bestseller list. It is now available in paperback.
Neufeld will be performing a reading at Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn on September 20.
The reading of "A.C." by Josh Neufeld will be held at Greenlight Bookstore at 7:30 PM on September 20. The bookstore is at 686 Fulton Street between South Elliott Place and South Portland Avenue in Fort Greene. The event is free.
