The events depicted in the original "28 Days Later" (2002) and the previous three graphic novels of the ongoing BOOM! Studios comics continue in this latest graphic novel 28 Days Later Vol. 3: Gangwar. Picking up directly after the previous novel's events in which our three survivors Selena (the character from the film), an American reporter Clint and their now blinded photographer Derrick have escaped the confines of a secret American military compound just outside infected London (which is the destination of our characters).
Without a vehicle to help them make their way to the city they decide to hitch a ride on a train which holds more dangers than just possibly being covered in the infected. The trip is short lived as they finally make their way to a nearby city but now they've encountered a new problem. It seems that the survivors of the plague have decided to segregate the city creating a huge turf war between them. When they are captured, they must decide whether to stay on their path and stick to their guns or end up just becoming another casualty of war.
This volume focuses on the moral dilemmas that our characters face when the humans become more of a danger than the infected. We get to see more of Selena's past with her now dead husband and learn why she is the way she is (both as depicted in the original film and in the comic book series).
Writer Michael Alan Nelson continues to come up with new scenarios for our characters that bring with them new challenges and continues to propel the story forward in a natural way. For fans of the film this series is a true joy as the people behind it have taken great care to be respectful of the source material while continuing the legacy for as long as the series lasts.
