Graphic Novel Review: ARMY of DARKNESS: ASH SAVES OBAMA

Ash Saves the President from a Deadite Horde!

Kevin L. Powers
You may not have asked for it but you've got it! The Army of Darkness series (from Dynamite Entertainment) goes where it seems every other publisher has gone before which is allowing the hero of the Army of Darkness franchise Ash J. Williams (played by character actor Bruce Campbell in the films) to save The President from the evil of the Necronomicon, or Book of the Dead.

In the new graphic novel - Army of Darkness: Ash Saves Obama, Ash finds himself at a comic book convention in which the Necronomicon has been transferred into comic book form. When Ash discovers that The President has accidentally purchased one of the accursed comic books he must retrieve the book before it can be spread throughout the whole world. Making matters worse is that Ash must also confront comic book geeks and weirdoes not to mention a horde of possessed Deadites on the loose.

As usual this series plays it fast and furious with the same humor as seen in the original film. Writer Elliott Serrano and artist Ariel Padilla do a stand up job with the series. Also along for the ride are colorist Rael Sidharta and Bill Tortolini, who does letters. For fans of the franchise this is business as usual as Dynamite Entertainment puts together another great addition to the ongoing franchise.

Ash has faced off with a lot of great characters in the past - Marvel Zombies, Darkman, Herbert West - the Re-Animator, and even Xena, Warrior Princess, but nothing will prepare him for meeting The President of the United States.
