Graphic Novel Top Picks

A List of Some of the Best Graphic Novels to Read

Guveneur
The world of graphic novels is wide and diverse, and I'm here to narrow it down for you. A good graphic novel requires both a compelling story (and all the elements within) and fantastic art. Here are a few that excel at both.
  • V for Vendetta- Allan Moore reigns supreme at great graphic novels, so I had to pick one to give you a taste. The art is eerie and ominous; which is fitting to the story. Read for both the action and the socio-political commentary. Of course, he's written other classics like Watchmen, Swamp Thing, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
  • Lock and Key- Joe Hill (son of author Stephen King) has written a story line that is intriguing and curious. Built with more suspense and page turning factors than most anyone else, it also has relatable material to the individual. This is one book that gets you interested in every facet of the story. You'll probably anticipate the new issues the most on this. And yes, the art is superb.
  • Fable- When I picked this one up I had no idea what it could be about, and my speculations were far from correct. It posses a Marvel quality with the plethora of interesting characters. It maintains the "fairy-tale charm" while being mature enough for adult readers. The art is classic; printed on un-glossed paper, making it warm to read.
  • Civil War- yes, this isn't a single volume, I know. Start somewhere, and you'll want to read it all. The story has a Lost/Heroes attractiveness which can satisfy most any reader. Depending on which series you read, the art can be up or down.
There are plenty more, but this should get you started. I'd be interested to hear your suggestions and perspectives in the comment box below.
