Grasping Lineage

For My Dad and Lucas - Happy Father's Day

J L Carey Jr
There's something greater
Than the hearts pleasure passing
Through their holding hands

The simple gesture
Unfolding like a silent
Changing of the guards

Their like particles bonding

Michael Angelo
Couldn't have created a
Painting more touching

This time old exchange
Of loves replenishment, of
Immortality

All writers, poets in particular, want to leave a legacy or we wouldn't work so hard for so little. May your legacy, both as a writer and a father, be rich.

We all wonder what impressions we have made...I have no idea if I have...hope so.

You raise a good point Christine. This poem is more about just leaving a piece of yourself behind to continue on, even if it is only a mannerism or gesture.

I wonder sometimes whether it is immortal or actually fleeting and have come to the realization (or delusion) that our lineage is not in our hands. What we create is left behind for others to assess or ignore or celebrate or destroy...and once we leave it's out of our hands -- forever. (Appreciated this piece and the thoughts it conjured.)

We all want to be remembered for something good. That's why painters paint and writers write. Thanks for sharing your lovely poem. :)

Thank you for appreciating the reference Tina. That picture of my sons hand resting on my dads just brings that to mind for me. I am so glad that all of my kids love to be around their grandparents and vice versa.
