Grassroots Email Campaign to Ask Extreme Home Makeover to Build a New Home for Buffalo Airplane Crash Victims

Petition to Extreme Home Makeover Circulates Internet

Betty Neroni
There is a petition circulating the internet asking Extreme Home Makeover to gift Karen Wielinski and her daughter with a new home after the commuter airplane crashed into their home on February 12th. Many in the petition have suggested that a small memorial park be placed where the home was and the Wielinski's be given a lot as close to that neighborhood as possible.

One day when I was at home alone, an airplane "buzzed" our neighborhood, in particular my home. I did not hear an engine problem, it wasn't cutting out, but it was the loudest noise I have ever heard. My first instinct was that it was going to crash either into my home or a neighboring home. I couldn't figure out which way to run, I just stood there waiting for it to be over, convinced it would crash at any second. Well, it didn't and the next day I heard that some of those stunt aircraft were giving a show in our city. I don't know if that is who it was so I will not mention them by name, but just that incident was very frightening.

When I heard that an airplane had crashed into a home in Buffalo, I remembered that incident and thought how horrible it must have been for that family. Something so unexpected and terrifying, the paralyzing shock of not knowing what to do and which way to run, the sound of it and then the panic. Just imagine what it felt like to have an airplane crash into your home, what a nightmare for both the families of the victims on the airplane, but also for the family whose world changed in a few moments. Their husband and father died that day and they lost their home and every personal item they had, every keepsake and every photo.

Nothing can make up for the loss of a husband and father, but maybe a new home and the knowledge that everyone out there cared enough to do this will brighten the world of Karen Wielinski and her 22-year-old daughter Jill and give them hope for the future.

The petition reads:

"We the undersigned would like you to come and re-build a home on 6038 Long Street in Clarence Center, N.Y. A recent tragedy occurred on 02/12/2009 where a plane from Continental Airlines crashed into the home not only killing those on the plane but also a husband and father who lived in the home. We are asking that in light of this tragedy a new home be built for this family as this was so unexpected."

so you really think they need a free home... The airline must have paid them enough to buy a house and never have to work... come on be real.
