Gravy Recipe for Thanksgiving

Michelle K. Miller
As far as Thanksgiving goes, most of us like to make some of our dinner a little jucier and a bit more delicious by adding one thing: gravy. Whether it's white "sawmill" gravy, or a tasty river of brown gravy, this popular "condiment" is ladled over Thanksgiving favorites like turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing.

The following is my mother's recipe for turkey-flavored gravy.

Ingredients:

2 cups of turkey "drippings" (broth from the bottom of the pan that the turkey was cooked in)

1/4 cup of olive oil

4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour

Salt and pepper to taste

Mixture of half a quart of milk and half a cup of water

Procedure:

1. In a frying pan, put in the olive oil and flour. If the mixture is too thick for your taste, add more oil. If too runny, add more flour. Cook this mixture until it is brown.

2. Add the milk and water mixture, and stir until it is mostly smooth.

3. Add the turkey drippings, and mix until all the lumps are out of the gravy.

4. Salt and pepper to your taste.

Since this gravy is slightly thick if made according exactly to the recipe, I do not recommend putting this into a gravy boat. Instead, put it into a serving bowl, and serve with a small ladle or spoon.

This is a simple, quick, and easy way to create delectable gravy to pour over your Thanksgiving munchies.
