Gray and Void

Review of Dark Void Video Game

Timmy Lehr
It is hard to start a review, especially when one has a lack of inspiration. When there is nothing you can find interesting, a review transforms in somewhat of a very intricate task.

The Dark Void game was released on January 19, 2010 by Capcom, as a single player action, third-person shooter genre video game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows platforms. The Dark Void takes you in the Bermuda Triangle, where William Augustus Grey crashes. The crash is followed by a teleportation to a parallel universe, where other humans live, called Survivors. The story centers around the character Will, and the other humans return to Earth. In order to do this, the main character and the Survivors have to fight against the Watchers, who are an alien race. They came from far away and treat humans like servants.

The Dark Void game creator, Capcom experiments new challenges on the action with a new way of combat, the 'vertical combat', with not too much positive result. Being parallel to the ledge will give you a weird impression and an absurd state of mind. It is physically impossible to stay flat against the wall, and shoot bad guys while attempting to advance to the following platform.

The Dark Void has three episodes and it could seem short, that is, if you enjoy playing the game. After all, that is the purpose of playing a video game, isn't it? But when you used vertical combat and you didn't have any fun, you reached the first half an hour and you became bored, that is the moment when you hit the pause button and maybe you never return. Or maybe, just finish the game after you had a technical break.

The video game development has also some problems, that they have to resolve, for the next release. The design has some lacks, like bad shadows, and eye catching environments. The sound also presents some mediocrity. The presence of Nolan North does not help very much, although, it is good to hear the voice , but this isn't enough to save the game.

The screenplay has some lacking visuals too, even when you reached the end, you are not clear about what is happening here, you just go and have the chore combats. Reaching the end you will ask yourself the question: do I want to play it again? The fun isn't so much, as it augurs.
