The age-old question for invited birthday party guests is, "what should I give him/her for a present?" However, what many people fail to realize is that it is just as hard for the party giver or honoree, as it is for the partygoer, to find a perfect party favor to give guests. This is even harder for adult birthday parties. There are options available for those who do not mind the expense, as well as some for those who are on a larger budget.

Choosing a party favor for a guest that will be useful or at least not be thrown away as soon as your guest arrives at his or her home can be even harder than coming up with the guest list. In addition, if you have a little extra money to put towards your favors you are much better off.

Coffee Mugs

One birthday party favor that goes over quite well is a personalized coffee mug. You have the option of going out and purchasing the mugs of your choice in the colors that you like. You then take them to have the imprinting done, with the name and birth date of the birthday party honoree. For a little extra money, you can choose a company that will provide you with the mugs as well as the printing for one charge. You can also go for just a plain mug, which you can usually find at reasonable prices at pottery stores, and other retailers. Under normal circumstances this as a gift that will not be thrown away. Most people like to have a mug to drink their morning coffee in and for those non-coffee drinkers the mugs make good pencil cups.

Ballpoint Pens

This is another great functional birthday party favor. In this situation, it is best to have them personalize with the honorees particulars. You will want the pen to be used so it is best to spend a little extra money and get pens that do not skip when being used. Most retailers that offer personalized pens will not have a problem in providing you with samples of some of the available instruments that they sell.

Scented Candles

Another economical choice is scented candles. The candles do not have to be large. In fact, it will be fine to go with a couple of smaller candles and even a reasonably priced glass votive to place them. This usually will go over well with both men and women, as long as you make sure that some of the candle scents are not necessarily light and floral and include some heavier scents.

Scented Soaps

The last functional favor is that of scented soaps. Either these soaps can be purchased from a retailer or some people prefer homemade soaps. With either of these, as long as the fragrances are not overwhelming, they will go to good use.

Everything Else

There are many other reasonable but creative ideas for party favors. Why not purchase candy bars, and print labels to go over them with the honorees name and birth date? This is one of the cheapest ideas to use, and again your chocolate will not go to waste. You can also take the same labels and cover over the labels on unopened bottles of beer. Again, this item will be consumed, and it has a personal touch to it. However, do not forget about condensation on beer bottles. If you choose to go with this idea make sure that you use labels with print that does not run (weatherproof labels printed on a color or black-and-white laser printer will work best).
