Great Books for Beginning Readers

Amanda Werner
As children start learning to recognize letters then form those letters into sounds and so forth, parents are always encouraging their children to do more. So when a child starts learning to read our duties are to encourage and provide great reading materials so that they can continue their quest and not become discouraged. Having gone through this three times I have learned some great books that work and then there are other books that don't work so well. Each child is different and will continue at their own pace. Some children will love the adventures of reading while others will struggle to find something enjoyable to read. It is what makes the world go round and makes us each unique. In this article you will find some great books that have worked through each of my three children. We still have these books sitting on our shelves and my children have fond memories of these books, so each time I try to clean out the bookshelves they insist these books stay. I hope that by sharing these books with you that your children will feel the same way.

Those Uncle Wiggly books sound divine! I love old books! I am sure that grandchild of yours will love them!

I have a new grandchild (well, she just turned 6 mos.). I look forward to reading to her. I am considered expert in reading and hope I may be able to pass on my method to her. So I am interested in books. In fact, I have a whole collection of 1920's books called Uncle Wiggily which I intend to read to her. Thanks for these title suggestions.

I am ashamed to admit that I don't know all of these books! Thanks for a reading list! :-)
